By Friday night we should know more about Bruce Jenner's "journey." It won't be a surprise anymore, but will we know all? And will we still care?
ABC News and Diane Sawyer are betting we will, at least enough to watch a two-hour special in which ex-anchor Sawyer will seek the answers to nosy questions people have been asking since last year about Jenner's appearance.
If Sawyer is the competent questioner she has shown herself to be in the past, we should be hearing this sort of query:
So, Bruce, is it true you're changing your gender to female?
Assuming the answer to that is yes, which is almost certainly the case based on his mother's testimony, then the other questions follow.
How come? How old were you when you started feeling you were a female in a male body? What was it like having to present yourself as a man for six decades — and not just any man but a gold medal-winning Olympic decathlete, who married three women, became a reality-show star, and is father or stepfather to 10 children?
Why are you going public with your transition now, at age 65?
It is not clear we will get full answers from Jenner on all aspects of his story.
For instance, will Jenner reveal the new woman's name he plans to use, show himself in women's clothing, or start using the female pronoun? Discuss details of his transition such as surgical procedures and hormone therapy? Talk about how his famous family, including the Kardashian clan and his ex-wife Kris Kardashian Jenner, have reacted?
We don't know, at least not from the teasers the network is dribbling out in advance of the show. But that, of course, is the point of teasers.
ABC's latest clip, its fourth, was released Thursday morning as Sawyer made the promotional rounds. "I want to know how my story ends," Jenner says, adding to the unrevealing quotes highlighted so far in the clips.
