For the second straight Mega Millions drawing, a ticket sold in New Jersey produced a $1 million winner.
That's a rarity in itself. The chances that a $1 million ticket would be bought in the same town or city in consecutive drawings seems even more unlikely. That's what happened Tuesday night though, as another Clifton store sold a lucky ticket.
The latest $1 million ticket was purchased at Richfield Liquors on Clifton Avenue, state lottery officials said this morning.
Someone also bought a ticket worth $1 million for Friday's drawing about three miles away at a 7-Eleven on Main Avenue. That was one of two tickets sold forthat drawing matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball — the other purchase was made in Linden.
The odds of a buying a $1 million ticket are 18,492,204 to 1, according to the Mega Millions website.
Tuesday's $326 million jackpot — the eighth largest in Mega Millions history — was won by a Middletown, N.Y. ticket buyer. That player overcame 258,890,850 to 1 odds.
The numbers drawn Tuesday were: 9, 15, 24, 39 and41. The Mega Ball chosen was 1. If the Clifton winner had spent an extra $1 to exercise the Megaplier option, he or she would have won $4 million.
