U.K. Concerned By Trial, Jailing Of British-Iranian Woman

8:31 PM
The British government says it is concerned about reports that a British-Iranian woman has been sentenced to one year in prison after trying to attend a volleyball match in Tehran.
In a statement on November 2, the British Foreign Office said there are “concerns about the grounds for this prosecution, due process during the trial,” and the treatment of Ghonchech Ghavami while in custody.
The 25-year-old graduate of a law school in London was arrested on June 20 outside of Azadi Stadium, where Iran's national volleyball team was going to play Italy.
She was told in September that she was charged with "propaganda against the regime."
Ghavami already has spent 128 days in detention, including 41 in solitary confinement.
She went on a two-week hunger strike in October to protest her imprisonment.
