AMSTERDAM — Defending champion Ajax beat FC Twente 4-2 Sunday to remain 12 points behind Eredivisie leader PSV Eindhoven.
In a frenetic opening at the Amsterdam Arena, Jesus Corona gave Twente the lead in just the sixth minute before Ajax equalized and went ahead thanks to goals from Nick Viergever and Riechedly Bazoer in the 10th and 15th minutes.
Hakim Ziyech put Twente back on level terms five minutes after the break before winger Ricardo Kishna scored twice to seal the Ajax victory.
PSV made sure it would maintain its comfortable 12-point buffer by beating AZ Alkmaar 4-2 on Friday night, with striker Luuk de Jong scoring a hat trick.
Third-place Feyenoord suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at Heracles Almelo on Saturday night to fall 20 points behind PSV.
